The man who police believe killed two Idaho firefighters responding to a brush fire after starting the flames himself had wanted to pursue a career in the fire service, his grandfather told CNN.

Wess Roley, 20, was living out of his vehicle and his former roommate said he shaved off his long hair and started to "kind of go downhill.”

Wess Roley has been identified as the suspect who ambushed firefighters in Idaho, killing two and injuring one. He was found dead near his weapon.
