Tropical Storm Francine developed in the Gulf of Mexico Monday and was expected to make landfall Wednesday as a hurricane along the coast of Louisiana, forecasters said. The National Hurricane Center also warned of potentially life-threatening storm surge for portions of the upper Texas and Louisiana coastlines.

The National Hurricane Center said Wednesday night that Francine is no longer a hurricane and now is a tropical storm. Francine has sustained winds of 70 mph as it moves across southern Louisiana.

Tropical Storm Gordon is moving west in the Atlantic Ocean Saturday but poses no current threat to southeastern Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
