Ohio voters will make decisions on three supreme court races that will determine which political party controls the bench.

It is unlikely that the court ends up playing a major role in the outcome, according to elections experts, but it is possible. Here’s why.

Justice Joy Cunningham beat out primary challenger Judge Jesse Reyes in March and is running unopposed this election. Cunningham was appointed to the court by retiring Chief Justice Anne Burke as her replacement in 2022. Lisa Holder White, a Republican running in a separate state Supreme Court district, is also unopposed.
