Governor Kathy Hochul proposed expanding New York’s tax credit for more than 2.75 million kids. The plan would give 1.6 million Empire State families a tax credit of up to $1,000 dollars per child under the age of 4, and $500 for kids ages 4 to 16. It would be the largest boost to New York’s child tax credit system in history.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has now released two early proposals from her State of the State message that aim to address concerns over the high cost of living.

The proposal would raise the credit to a maximum of $1,000 per child — the largest expansion in state history.

Hochul said she wants to provide families with an annual tax credit of up to $1,000 per child under age 4, and up to $500 per child from ages 4 through 16.
