If approved by the NCAA, the American Football Coaches Association's proposal could go into effect as early as next year

Changes could be coming to the college football transfer portal cycle in the near future. On Tuesday, FBS coaches voted unanimously in support of a proposal that would reduce the transfer portal window to a 10-day period in January.

FBS coaches voted to move the transfer window to Jan. 2 through Jan. 12 starting in the 2025-26 academic year. The move would wipe out the current portal windows in December and April and potentially provide a boost to teams competing in the college football playoff and the lesser bowl games.

Student-athletes can enter their names into the transfer portal during two different periods for the 2024-25 academic year. The first took place in early December and the second in late April.

FBS head coaches at the AFCA convention unanimously voted to eliminate the December and April transfer windows in favor of one 10-day period in January.
