“Emilia Pérez” and “ Wicked ” emerged January 23 as the two Oscar craft juggernauts, scoring seven nominations apiece and setting up a battle of the musicals at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. This matches the seven craft nominations of last year’s eventual Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer.”

Jacques Audiard’s Spanish crime thriller Emilia Pérez featured in multiple categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Lead Actress, which Karla Sofía Gascón is up for.

Karla Sofía Gascón is still here for her fellow Oscar nominee Fernanda Torres. The Emilia Pérez star denied speaking ill of the I'm Still Here performer—who she's facing off in the Best Actress category at the upcoming 2025 Oscars—and violating an Academy Awards policy.
