A subtropical storm named Patty has formed near the Azores, drifting east toward Spain. The storm formed suddenly Saturday morning, prompting warnings.
Patty is clocking maximum sustained winds of nearly 50 mph (about 80 kph) with higher gusts. The Azores are an island chain are located about 800 miles (about 1,287 kilometers) off Portugal.
Winds of 40 mph extend outward up to 205 miles from the center. On the forecast track, Patty is expected to move near or just south of the Azores through Sunday, according to NHC.
