Stock car racing legend Bobby Allison, who also made two Indianapolis 500 starts in the 1970s with Team Penske, died Saturday, Nov. 9 in Mooresville, North Carolina. He was 86.

Allison was most successful in NASCAR, but he also tried his luck at the Indianapolis 500, drove an IROC Porsche, guest starred in a BRE Datsun, and even did a test for CanAm with the Shadow team. He always went back to stock cars, because that's where the money and connections were, but he was quick any time he got behind the wheel.

Bobby Allison, a former professional stock car racing driver and owner and NASCAR Hall of Famer, died Saturday, NASCAR announced. He was 86. In a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, Bob Pockrass shared the following on behalf of NASCAR CEO Jim France.
