Argentinian President Milei has taken steps follow in President Trump's footsteps and withdraw his country from the World Health Organization in apparent protest of how it handled the COVID pandemic.

Argentina announced it would follow the United States out of the World Health Organization, echoing Trump's repeated complaints about what he called the body's mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

WHO is the only organization mandated to coordinate global responses to acute health crises, particularly outbreaks of new diseases and persistent threats including Ebola, AIDS and mpox.

President Milei, who describes himself as an "anarcho-capitalist", has been critical of the WHO for some time but the idea of leaving the body appears to have gained traction in the days after Donald Trump signed an executive order setting in motion the US's exit from the international body.

Argentina will withdraw from the World Health Organisation, a spokesman for President Javier Milei said, just weeks after his ally, US President Donald Trump, announced he would again pull out of the global health alliance.

WHO has stated that it is reviewing Argentina’s announcement, but the organization has no authority to compel countries to follow specific health guidelines, and many nations have previously ignored its recommendations.
