Nintendo might announce more aspects of the Switch 2 before it’s actually revealed, as this information demonstrates. But do not expect an actual look at the hardware before 2025, and don’t be shocked if it looks…a lot like the current Switch with better graphics.

Nintendo may be on the cusp of revealing the successor to the wildly successful Switch, but the company won't leave its old console completely in the dust. In a recent briefing, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it) will be backward compatible with games for the original Switch.

“At today's Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well,” Nintendo's Shuntaro Furukawa, said.
