A zoo in Switzerland said winter storms allowed two red pandas to escape their enclosure and one of the animals wandered all the way into nearby woodlands.

The Smithsonian National Zoo posted video on Monday (January 6) of giant pandas Bao Li and Qing Bao enjoying a frolic in the snow as Washington, D.C. was blanketed by a winter storm.

A pair of red pandas broke out of their zoo enclosure and escaped into a nearby forest. The female cubs, Li and Yen, made the daring getaway after heavy snowfall caused plants in the panda enclosure to collapse, offering an escape route.

The two giant pandas were seen on camera playing around in the snowfall that blanketed much of the Midwest and mid-Atlantic on Monday.

Who would've thought the pandas were giant fans of snow? While humans in the area were probably hunkering inside and away from the cold, these two seized the opportunity of an empty zoo and inclement weather to have a little fun.
