After leaving boyhood club Newcastle United, Sean Longstaff spoke about what made him want to make the move to Leeds United.

Leeds United made their fifth signing of the summer with the arrival of Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United. The experienced midfielder put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Elland Road.

Speaking to The Mirror during Longstaff’s first full season at St James' Park back in 2019, Shearer claimed Longstaff had similiar traits to ex-Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Michael Carrick. He waxed lyrical about Longstaff's passing ability and the energy he brought to the team.

Longstaff reached out to his former Newcastle teammate Karl Darlow as he closed in on his Leeds move, and felt wanted by the Premier League newcomers, who are trying to build a squad to survive in the top flight. Longstaff said: “I remember obviously playing here [Elland Road] as a little kid, nine, 10 years old. It is funny where life takes you.

Longstaff has signed a deal to 2029 at Elland Road. He told the Leeds website: “I remember obviously playing here as a little kid, nine, 10 years old. It is funny where life takes you. So to be back here now with the plans for the club and stuff, I think it is just really exciting to get going.
