ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) unveiled the latest additions to its Zephyrus G series, the Zephyrus G14 and G16 ultraportable gaming laptops.

ASUS unveils its new ROG Strix G18 gaming laptops: 18-inch 2.5K 240Hz display, up to Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU.

Asus has updated its XG Mobile eGPU to the RTX 5090, and it's also made some major changes to the gaming hardware to make it much more open.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G16 and G18 are on the higher end when compared to the rest of the Strix series, as they can be built with up to an RTX 5090 GPU. These laptops can even boast up to 64GB RAM and 2TB of SSD storage, alongside featuring a Mini-LED display rather than just IPS. The series starts at $2,599 for its 16-inch model

The Strix Scar 18 now feels sleek, and that makes all the difference. The keyboard sits flat to the top of the inner deck, with no dent in the chassis to accommodate it. The finish looks and feels somewhat satin, and seems remarkably resistant to fingerprints—a bug bear of mine on almost all gaming laptops.

CES 2025 is a significant one for gaming, thanks to Nvidia’s new GPUs, and Asus has risen to the occasion by updating the vast majority of its gaming lineup.

There's the new Zephyrus G16, which comes with Intel's Core Ultra 9 processor 285H and choice of RTX 50-series GPU, up to an RTX 5090. And the Zephyrus G14, my pick of the two, which keeps the same Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 as last year's model but up to an RTX 5080 this time around.
