More than 1,700 Black South African servicemen who died in non-combat roles on the Allied side during World War I and have no known grave have been recognized with a memorial more than a century later.

Anne's international trip will also involve the unveiling of the Cape Town Labour Corps Memorial, which will "commemorate more than 1,700 predominantly Black South Africans who died in World War I between 3 and 14 August 1914 and who have no known gravesite," per Hello! magazine.

Princess Anne was forced to undertake a royal tour of South Africa solo after her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, was injured at their home, Gatcombe Park. His injury comes seven months after the Princess Royal was hospitalized with a concussion following her own injury on the estate.

Princess Anne stepped out in South Africa on her own as her husband was forced to pull out of the international trip after suffering an injury to his hand. Anne arrived in Cape Town for a two-day visit on Tuesday,
