On Tuesday evening, Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa took to X to make a grand declaration about the Switch 2. He confirmed that "the successor to Nintendo Switch" will be fully backwards compatible with original Switch software.

While the Switch 2 may be backwards compatible, Nintendo would not confirm whether we'll still be able to use our old cartridges.

Nintendo may be on the cusp of revealing the successor to the wildly successful Switch, but the company won't leave its old console completely in the dust. In a recent briefing, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it) will be backward compatible with games for the original Switch.
