An 11-mile section of the road opened Wednesday near Asheville, between U.S. 70 and N.C. 191 near the N.C. Arboretum. That stretch includes the Blue Ridge Parkway visitors center and the Folk Art Center, which is scheduled to reopen Nov. 9.

Access to an 11-mile stretch of the scenic roadway has been restored, the National Park Service said Wednesday. More than 150 miles remain inaccessible.

On Nov. 6, the National Park Service reopened the parkway from milepost 382.5, at US 70 near the Folk Art Center, to milepost 393.6, at NC Route 191 near the NC Arboretum. The French Broad Overlook at milepost 393.8 was also opened.

Another stretch of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway is open to visitors after being cleared of debris from Helene, the National Park Service announced Wednesday. Crews restored access to about 11 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway,

Several areas of the parkway, which was visited by over 16.7 million people last year, are now accessible in Western North Carolina. The section between Milepost 405.5, near NC 151, and Milepost 411.8, at NC 276, opened Friday. Campgrounds, picnic areas and other visitor services in this section are closed for the 2024 season.

Eleven more miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina opened to the public Wednesday as National Park Service crews continued to remove debris left by Hurricane Helene and make repairs.
