Rite Aid began its first round of layoffs after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week while also putting all its brick-and-mortar operations up for sale. Hundreds of workers lost their jobs Monday, and hundreds more will lose their jobs in June.

As drugstore chain Rite Aid recently announced plans to file for bankruptcy, for a second time, the company also announced that it will not be accepting returns, exchanges, or gift cards, beginning in June.

The pharmacy chain based in the Navy Yard has been struggling for years. It first filed for bankruptcy in October 2023.
