Firefighters are still working to contain the Palisades Fire as search and rescue efforts continue Wednesday, just over a week after the massive wildfire broke out and left at least eight people as it burned more than 23,

Additional water tankers and scores of firefighters arrived at the Los Angeles area on Monday ahead of fierce winds that were forecast to return and threaten the progress made so far on two massive infernos that have destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people.

Firefighters reported significant gains Wednesday against the two massive wildfires burning around Los Angeles while also extinguishing smaller blazes set by arsonists as a final round of windy, flame-fanning weather moved through Southern California.

As wildfires continue to burn in Los Angeles, support, resources and additional firefighters from all over have poured into the city. That includes from some likely lesser-known fire departments: those on tribal reservations across California.
