Central North Carolina is preparing for a winter storm that will develop on Wednesday. Governor Josh Stein declared a State of Emergency during an emergency briefing Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Triangle and south of it Wednesday morning into Thursday morning.

On Tuesday at 9:59 p.m. the NWS Wakefield VA issued an updated winter storm warning valid from Wednesday 10 a.m. until Thursday 6 p.m. The warning is for Western Currituck and Eastern Currituck as well as Northampton,

The NWS Blacksburg VA issued a weather alert at 1:01 a.m. on Friday for snow until 3:15 a.m. The alert is for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties.

Re-freezing could also result in black ice and slick travel conditions. Significant ice accumulations were forecast in eastern North Carolina, the National Weather Service said.
