One of Maymont’s horses, Dani, dies at age 30
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One of Maymont’s beloved farm animals, Dani the horse, died on Tuesday at age 30. According to Maymont, Dani was a Clydesdale/Hackney mix who had been treated for a year for age-related conditions, including arthritis and a pituitary dysfunction.

Maymont is mourning the loss of a beloved horse who lived there for two decades. A spokesperson says Dani was humanely euthanized Tuesday at the age of 30 due to progressive, age-related conditions. Dani arrived at Maymont Farm in 2004.

"Dani will be missed by the entire Maymont community," Maymont President and CEO Parke Richeson said. "With her strength and gentle nature, Dani was a great animal ambassador at Maymont Farm, helping people understand the important role that horses have played on traditional working farms."

Dani was the queen of the herd, but very affectionate, too,” said Joe Neel, Maymont Senior Manager of Zoology. “Our animal keepers enjoyed caring for this sweet-natured horse, who loved face rubs, basking in the sun and occasionally rolling on her back in the grass.

For the past year Dani was treated for arthritis and pituitary gland dysfunction, under close observation by Maymont animal care staff and medical monitoring by local veterinarians. Dani was a Clydesdale Hackney crossbreed and had been a guest favorite since her arrival at Maymont in 2004.
