Police in Kamloops, B.C., say they have launched an arson investigation into the fire that destroyed the 88-year-old Red Bridge across the South Thompson River.

The historic Red Bridge in Kamloops was destroyed in a fire early Thursday. The blaze is believed to have started in the middle of the bridge around 3 a.m. and quickly spread across the remainder of the bridge.

"It's sad that history is going to be gone, but we're also going to be looking at how we can have the immediate reconstruction at some point here."
