UNITED NATIONS — There is a strong likelihood that famine is imminent in parts of northern Gaza, where Israeli forces are conducting a major offensive, hunger experts warned Friday.

Famine is looming in the northern Gaza Strip amid Israel's genocide and blockade and a near-halt in food aid, a UN-backed assessment said Saturday.

Back-to-back UN reports have found famine is looming in the northern Gaza Strip as Israel continues an offensive which has killed mostly women and children in the locality.

The independent Famine Review Committee (FRC) said on Friday in a rare alert that there was a strong likelihood of imminent famine in parts of north Gaza with immediate action required from the warring parties to ease a catastrophic situation.

Experts called the humanitarian situation throughout the Gaza Strip “extremely grave and rapidly deteriorating."

At the beginning of November, the Biden administration ramped up criticism of Israel for not doing enough to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza as a deadline loomed for Israeli officials to meet certain requirements or risk potential restrictions on military assistance.
