SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): Former transport minister S. Iswaran was placed on the Home Detention Scheme on Friday (Feb 7).

Iswaran was the first former cabinet member to be jailed in Singapore after a high-profile trial that gripped the wealthy city state, which is famous for its clean governance.

Iswaran began his 12-month jail term on Oct 7, 2024. Lawyers confirmed with CNA that in their experience, offenders become eligible for home detention after serving around one-third of their sentence.

Iswaran began his 12-month jail term from October after pleading guilty to obtaining valuable items from tycoon Ong Beng Seng.
