KATHMANDU, March 6 (Reuters) - A three-year-old party led by rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah looked set to sweep Nepal's general election on Friday, trouncing established rivals in a result analysts likened to a "tsunami".

By Gopal Sharma KATHMANDU, March 5 (Reuters) - Polls in Nepal's general election closed on Thursday evening as the Himalayan nation gets ready to elect a new parliament nearly six months after the deaths of 77 people in a crackdown on youth-led protests forced its then prime minister to quit.
Nepal on Thursday held its first election since a youth-led uprising against corruption toppled the government last year.
Nepal held its first nationwide election since a youth-led uprising forces the last government from power. Officials reported peaceful voting and about 60% turnout.
Nepalis go to the polls on 5 March to elect a new government. The general election will be the first the country has held since deadly youth-led anti-corruption protests toppled the government in September 2025.
Nepal's general election saw a major upset. The Rashtriya Swatantrata Party, a new political force, has swept to power. Veteran politicians, including former prime ministers, faced significant defeats.
