Volvo has ended its vehicle subscription program. Care by Volvo was an alternative to leasing. The biggest difference to leasing was that customers could end the contract or switch cars after a few months.

While many subscription programs were axed over low use, Care by Volvo was reportedly profitable in the United States. Some dealers were also fond of the program and one told the publication that subscriptions accounted for 10% of his business and were a great way to introduce customers to the brand.

Volvo pitched the subscription program as a tool to draw younger buyers into the luxury brand with a lower price point. More than 80 percent of subscription customers were new to the brand, the automaker said previously.

The program was introduced in the U.S. in 2017 and covered not only the vehicle but also maintenance and insurance in the one monthly price, but Volvo now plans to return its focus to traditional sales and leasing models.
