The top 10 best-selling Switch games were shaken up by 2022's Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which has been climbing the ranks alongside 2023's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The best-selling Switch game is unlikely to ever be dethroned, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe consistently sitting at the top of the console's software sales chart.

In its earnings report, Nintendo said its next console will have backwards compatibility and be able to run games made for the Switch. In addition, Switch Online will also be available on the Switch 2.

Nintendo hasn’t announced its Switch successor yet, but we do know one thing for sure: it will be able to play current Switch games and have carryover for your Nintendo Switch Online services and account. The news was announced during Nintendo’s midyear policy briefing, with further information promised “at a later date.”

Nintendo has yet to reveal the Switch 2 but it's most certainly on the way with a planned release sometime in early 2025, and there's one question that

"At today's Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch," Nintendo posted in a social media update attributed to company president Shintaro Furukawa. "Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well."

Backwards compatibility between the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor has been confirmed.

Sega is set to delist a huge swathe of its classic back catalog games from digital storefronts in December, including the Sega Genesis Classics collection and several much-loved games from the Dreamcast era.

Sega fans may want to check out and purchase various Sega games on different platforms before they are eventually delisted.
