The celebrations at Times Square in New York City will kick off in less than a week, with star-studded performances and an exciting countdown.

Organizers of the Times Square New Year's Eve celebration screwed the last crystals onto the ball that will usher in 2025.

The last of the crystal triangles that make up this year's Times Square New Year's Eve ball were installed on Friday morning, marking the first time in 10 years that all 2,688 were replaced at once. The New Year's Eve ball that will usher in 2025 for the thousands celebrating in New York City's Times Square will be retired after January 1. CBS News New York's John Dias reports.

"You are really paying for the real estate, to be in the area and ultimately to get a view of the ball drop at midnight,” BallDrop.com founder Joshua Perla told the New York Post last year, when Applebee's tickets started at a comparatively modest $650.

Starting at 11am at the Times Square Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th Streets on Thursday, December 19, One Times Square will invite the public to change out the ball’s current Waterford Crystal triangles, which will be on a one-of-a-kind display, for the newly designed triangles for 2025—the ones that will descend on December 31.

Dec. 27 (UPI) -- The New Year's Eve ball has officially been unveiled ahead of its big drop on New Year's Eve. Pitbull was among those to adorn the ball with special additions Friday. The ball, which weighs 11,875 pounds, is covered with 2,688 "crystal triangles" and contains 32,256 LED lights.
