Gov. Maura Healey announced Tuesday her proposal to invest $8 billion over the next 10 years towards the state’s roads, bridges and regional transportation systems while addressing the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Agency’s (MBTA) budget shortfall.

WORCESTER, Mass. — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has proposed a 10-year, $8 billion transportation plan including an immediate move to stabilize the finances of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority — using funds from the state’s Fair Share tax on annual incomes over $1 million while requiring no new taxes.

On Tuesday, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced a plan to invest $8 billion in roads, bridges and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The plan will take place over the next 10 years and will not rely on any tax increases, according to Healey.

Calling it a “transformational” announcement, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has unveiled plans for a multi-billion dollar transportation investment plan.

The Bay State will spend upwards of $8 billion over the next ten years improving its roads, bridges and regional transportation services if a proposal announced by the governor Tuesday is passed by the legislature.

Healey’s plan, which would see $8 billion spent over the next 10 years, does not include tax increases. Instead, her office said the plan will maximize funds generated through the state’s Fair Share Amendment, also known as the “millionaire’s tax,” through borrowing and other existing resources.
