The harvest moon can take place in September or October depending on its proximity to the autumnal equinox. Another full moon that could also occur in September is known as corn moon which represents the period for gathering main staple crops of corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice, according to NASA.

A partial lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the sun and moon, casting a shadow that darkens a sliver of the moon and appears to take a bite out of it. Since the moon will inch closer to Earth than usual, it’ll appear a bit larger in the sky. The supermoon is one of three remaining this year.

Skygazers were treated to a spectacular celestial sight Tuesday night as the orange-ish Harvest supermoon coincided with a partial lunar eclipse.
