A pair of threats are in play in parts of the South this weekend, especially Saturday. Here's what you need to know.

Strong tornadoes are possible across the South as storms pass through the Gulf Coast region. Some locations could see half a foot of rain, worsening flooding.

The South is set to be hit by a series of powerful storm systems over the weekend, which will bring a risk of flooding, severe thunderstorms and tornados.

Sunday we will watch our temps tumble, as windier and colder skies allow lingering moisture to shift into snowfall. Not too much accumulation is projected. Colder temps could cause some roadway concerns as we see the excessive precipitation from the front half of the weekend - have the potential of freezing over Sunday into Sunday night.

“With the previous events we’ve had earlier here in the week with the snow and additional rain, we know there could be some significant issues especially in our areas that have the rivers and other streams,” said Dustin Heiser, assistant director of operations for Kentucky Emergency Management.
