Pagers used by hundreds of members of the militant group exploded near simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria. Hezbollah blamed Israel.

Lebanon's Internal Security Forces said people were injured after wireless communications devices exploded in several regions across the country.

Eight people were killed and about 2,750 others were wounded, 200 of them critically, according to Firas Abiad, Lebanon’s acting health minister. Most of the injuries sustained were to the face, hands or stomach — near where the pager would be held, Abiad said.

Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was slightly injured on Tuesday by the explosion of an electronic pager, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported, as numerous such devices exploded across Lebanon.

Hezbollah called in the "biggest security breach" in nearly a year of fighting against Israel as hundreds of pagers exploded.

In the largest security breach since October 2023, handheld Hezbollah pagers exploded across Lebanon and Syria, wounding more than 2,750 people on Sept. 17. Explosions lasted for about an hour after detonation.

Lebanese officials said Tuesday that a “large number of people” were injured in various parts of the country after pagers they were carrying exploded, including members of the militant group Hezbollah,

The Iran-backed militant group said handheld communication devices belonging to its members had blown up across the country.

Iran-backed Hezbollah accused Israel of orchestrating an attack that killed several people and left nearly 3,000 wounded across Lebanon, increasing fears of an all-out war.
