Air Busan will begin inspecting carry-on luggage for portable batteries before boarding, after a supplementary battery was suggested as the possible cause of a fire aboard one of its passenger jets at Gimhae International Airport on Jan.

Authorities will start a joint investigation into the Air Busan A321 that burst into flames at Busan Gimhae International Airport, Yonhap News Agency reports.

A fire broke out on an Air Busan Airbus A321 leased from AerCap while at the gate at South Korea's Busan Gimhae International Airport on Jan. 28. All 170 passengers and six crew members aboard Flight BX391, which was bound for Hong Kong, were evacuated using emergency slides. Two injuries were confirmed at the time of reporting.

Police on Friday raided Gimhae International Airport to secure evidence related to last week's fire in an Air Busan plane.

South Korea's Air Busan will not allow passengers to keep power banks in luggage stored in overhead cabin bins, in what on Tuesday it called a preemptive measure after one of its planes was engulfed in flames last week.

Hong Kong expert says expansion of measure to other airlines will depend on further risk assessments by trade groups and carriers.
