This was an amazing experience. As two adults we spent 6 hours here and only saw maybe 60% of everything. Could easily spend 2 days here. There's a ton of information everywhere and you can really … Full review by poejuggalo

This was an interesting museum, with things brought from all over the country to be preserved here. The park is organized in 7 areas, with some overlap. There are a number of windmills from a full s… Full review by fabdog

The Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem, The Netherlands, is not top notch but good enough for a relaxed visit. My wife and I took a day-return train ride from Amsterdam to Arnhem, then took No. 3 bus t… Full review by Peng Boon T

You can buy a single ticket entrance or a package ticket for the open air museum and Burgers Zoo and Safari at a slight discount. I am not sure if you can buy a museum card at the gate as these require a photo and they did not seem to have any camera's there. They do have a souvenir shop at the entrance/exit, so you may be able to purchase one there. In any case, if you have time, just send them an email, I am sure you will get a helpful response. If you want to buy a museum pass, I suggest you do so online, but check if it makes financial sense, for us, traveling with small children, it didn't.

Zaanse Schans has 2 types of attractions, windmills of several sorts (only 1 or 2 are admission free) and a shoe factory (which is free as well). There are lots of photo ops. We visited only one additional windmill which I found fascinating but the kids were not so impressed. The most intense memory my kids have of Zaanse Schans is the foul smell of the chocolate factory on the other riverbank (I never imagined that a chocolate factory can smell that awful) One the other hand the Open Air Museum has a lot of exhibitions spread on a large area (with a connecting train), most of them are various types of houses of differents eras and regions in the Netherlands. The exhibitions we found most interesting were of old professions, such as boat maker, broom maker, honeybee keeper. In addition the Open Air Museum can be enjoyable even when the weather is less than perfect.

There are.several possibilities. However, bus line nr. 3 offers a service 4 times per hour. Direction: Burgers' Zoo, stop at "Openluchtmuseum". The bus will go to Burgers Zoo first and then will arrive at "Openluchtmuseum " (5 min. walking to the museum) As it is a trolleybus, electrically driven like a tram on rails, it is a nice experience as well. Wish you a pleasant and interesting visit!

Hi, we are planning to visit the Netherlands in December (around the Christmas holidays) and plan to spend a day at the open-air museum. I know that the museum will be open on the dates I'm there, but I would like to know what buildings or what kinds of activities will be available/open since we will be there in the winter. For example, will we be able to watch the smith forging iron? How about the laundry activity (saw it in the promotional video)? Thanks in advance!

Hi Anolinde, As far as I know all activities are the same in summer and winter. Problably they dress heavier! All buildings inside are heated offcourse but the rest will be the same in summer and in winter. You will love it. I am Dutch and we took our American friends there. They loved it but also we did and we live in this country. Maybe it is not neccesery to spend a full day there but you are quite close to the zoo as well: Burger' s Zoo which is very nice.! Have fun there and if you doubt you can also send them an e-mail with your questions:[email protected] . Have fun in Holland!
