Magneto in the comics is currently classified as "Omega-Level" mutant. While usually this implies beings of pure energy or similarly immortal or unconstrained by their body entities, in case of Magneto this means that he is basically final authority on what electromagnetism does.
Magneto is the easier one, chronologically, since h was specifically age 9 at the start of Magneto Testament, which starts shortly before the unveiling of the Nuremburg Laws (which happened in September 1935), meaning he was born in 1926 and would be 97 chronologically/mentally.
Magneto -> Wanda -> Nocturne (alternate reality daughter with Nightcrawler) -> Nightcrawler (alternate reality, father) -> Mystique (alternate reality, mother) -> Rogue (multiple realities, adopted daughter) -> Gambit (multiple realities, husband) -> Cyclops (The Men: The End reality, genetic donor) And thus with a bunch of convoluted steps and two alternate realities you can directly connect ...
Rogue and Magneto are characters with distinct beliefs and personalities, which, contrary to creating discord, actually enhances their attraction. Magneto, the powerful ENTJ, is a natural leader driven by his convictions, while Rogue, with her INFP traits, brings a depth of emotion and understanding that challenges and softens Magneto’s edges.
A magneto is different from both those; it's a mechanical ignition system. It technically produces electricity, but not in a way that can charge a battery or power accessories.
In my head, Magneto's at least 62, assuming he was 10 by 1945. Rogue is about 25. She's been on the team at least 5 years and I think Xavier recruited her when she ran away from the Brotherhood in her late teens.
Magneto was a much older mentor figure to Rogue, she was young, impressionable and looked up to him. I think the show made it quite obvious that their relationship was problematic even though Rogue was technically an adult.
Magneto was already a very interesting character for his role as foil for Xavier, but forcing him to reconcile the disparate facets of their idealogies is just an amazing take on a character we've known since the beginning.
Magneto is a sympathetic character, but his radical ideology has turned him into a genocidal fascist. Xavier is desperately trying to de-escalate both parties to prevent a total war that would destroy both humans and mutants.
So, Rogue chose Magneto over Gambit at first, but it seemed like the only reason why was because she couldn’t have skin-to-skin contact with Gambit, and, to me, that wasn’t a good enough reason. It was also weird that she would go with a former enemy of the X-Men instead of one of her teammates who she’s worked with from the beginning.
